Daniel P. Madden built a career in funeral service, then decided to change how people experience it. Known as Dan the Funeral Man, he set out to put the fun back into funerals and remove the discomfort around talking about death and memorial planning. Through social media, he created a voice that is approachable, honest, and even entertaining, opening the door for conversations most people avoid. His creativity led to events like urn fashion shows, blending tradition with modern storytelling and ultimately launching FashUrns.com, a platform that reimagines memorial products with style and personality.
A native of the Greater Youngstown, OH area, Dan grew up in Canfield and graduated from South Range High School in 1998. After attending Youngstown State University, he earned a Bachelor of Mortuary Science from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 2001. With more than two decades in the funeral industry, he became a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner in October 2011 and spent much of his career serving families through Becker Funeral Homes. In January 2019, he purchased Stark Memorial, continuing a legacy of care while bringing his own forward thinking approach to the profession.
Dan remains deeply involved in both his industry and his community. He is active in organizations such as the Tri County Funeral Directors Association, Ohio Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, NFIB, Selected Independent Funeral Homes, and the Ohio Embalmers Association. He has served as Immediate Past President of the Poland Rotary Club and is also a member of the Salem Rotary Club. His community involvement extends to Trinity Fellowship Church, St. Paul Catholic Church in Salem, St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman, Sons of AMVETS, Elks 305, the Italian American Club, and the Greenford Ruritan.
In 2020, Dan became a certified Celebrant and in 2021 he earned his Crematory Operator certification. He lives in Canfield with his wife, Claudia Kovach, and their two children, Michael Daniel and Mabel Joan.
